LONDON, Nov 3 (Reuters) - British business minister Jonathan Reynolds will this week seek answers from US investment firm Gordon Brothers over the future of its Poundland retail business, a junior minister told parliament on Tuesday.

Poundland, which trades from more than 600 stores in the UK and Ireland, employing about 12,000, on Thursday filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators, giving the business ten working days to find a rescue deal.

Offers and Commercial Negotiations

• Poundland said last week it had not been possible to identify an acceptable offer for the business as a whole, though several retailers had made formal offers collectively covering a significant part of the business

• "There are ongoing commercial negotiations concerning a private business and it would not be appropriate for government to seek to influence the outcome or comment on the merits of individual bids," said Dearden

Government's Position and Job Protection

• But she said the government wants to see an outcome that protects as many jobs as possible and keeps as much of the business trading as possible
