ROME (Reuters) -Italy's ITA Airways will resume direct flights with Tel Aviv from January 1, a statement said on Friday, restoring connections with Rome's main airport of Fiumicino.
The company, part of the Lufthansa group, will initially operate two daily routes to and from Tel Aviv, the statement said.
The route "holds strategic importance for ITA Airways and represents a significant step for Italy, further strengthening the commercial, social, and cultural ties between the two countries."
Hamas and Israel have reached a fragile ceasefire deal this month brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump, that is being tested by periodic outbreaks of violence, part of the conflict triggered by the October 7, 2023 attack by the militant group.
Several airlines have suspended their connections during the last two years as a result of the war.
