Virgin Money Giving has launched a new App for Apple and Android mobile phones, to support fundraisers who want to ‘give on the go’. The App will help keep users close to their fundraising efforts and motivate them to raise even more money for good causes.

VMG Image1 - Global Banking | FinanceVirgin Money Giving is the not-for-profit fundraising website from Virgin Money and its new App will allow users to view their fundraising page wherever they are and whenever they want. The Virgin Money Giving App, which has been built in partnership with mobile innovation agency Monitise Create, can be downloaded for IOS7/ Android 3 mobile phones here http://virg.in/iOS and http://virg.in/Android.

The App allows the user to receive notifications on their progress against their fundraising target, and follow the progress of friends and family. It also provides hints and tips on how to raise more money allows users to share progress via Twitter, Facebook, SMS or email and provides prompts to friends to help meet fundraising targets – and the user can also offer feedback directly to the Virgin Money Giving help desk team.  Virgin Money Giving has also made sure as much money as possible goes to charity by taking the user to the mobile optimised virginmoneygiving.com website.

Executive Director of Virgin Money Giving Jo Barnett said: “The Virgin Money Giving App isn’t just for our fundraisers it’s for their families, friends and biggest supporters too. Anyone can use it to keep an eye on their own page as well as fundraising friends, and it’s perfect for big events such as the Virgin Money London Marathon coming up in April as you can track lots of people at the same time.”

“The launch of our mobile-optimised website in early 2013 helped to increase both the volume and value of donations made through mobile phones. 30% of Virgin Money Giving’s traffic is now coming from mobile phones and the new App from Virgin Money Giving is another tool in the fundraiser-locker that helps to bring their story to life and puts control in the palm of their hand.”

Donations to charities in 2013 made through Virgin Money Giving grew by 11% year-on-year to over £80.5 million (including Gift Aid). This was achieved despite continuing pressure on overall levels of giving in the UK, illustrating the increasing popularity of Virgin Money Giving and on-line giving in general. Virgin Money Giving has helped fundraisers to raise almost £250 million (including Gift Aid) between its launch in late 2009 and the end of December 2013.

Virgin Money Giving operates a not-for-profit business model, and charges only a small fee (2%) on donations to ensure it can deliver an effective service to charities that is sustainable for the future. It does not make any charge for the collection of Gift Aid and there is no monthly fee for charities. As a result of this not-for-profit business model and low fees, it is estimated that since its launch, Virgin Money Giving has delivered an extra £7.5 million to charities compared to its closest competitor.
