Roy McDonald will Enhance Firm’s Compliance, Investigations and FCPA-Related Capabilities
McDermott Will & Emery announced today that Roy McDonald has joined the firm’s Litigation Practice Group as a partner in the Silicon Valley office.
Mr. McDonald brings vast experience in compliance and investigations matters, with a particular focus on anti-corruption and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), and securities and business litigation. His FCPA representations include Fortune 500 and other prominent global companies and range from proactive measures to representing clients through investigations and remediation. Mr. McDonald has an in-depth background in counseling US multinational companies doing business in Asia, Europe, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.
“Roy will be a great addition to the firm’s White Collar practice and its Chambers-ranked California White Collar team,” said Lazar P. Raynal, global chair of McDermott’s Litigation Practice Group. “Roy’s FCPA experience will increase the breadth and depth of what we can offer to our corporate and individual clients both in Silicon Valley and around the world.”
“Roy’s strengths will mesh well with the existing talent of Silicon Valley litigation partners Dan Alberti and Marisa Chun,” said Bill Gaede, partner-in- charge of the firm’s Silicon Valley office. “I look forward to the collaboration of Roy, Dan, and Marisa with the talent in our other California offices as we enhance McDermott’s White Collar Litigation offerings here on the West Coast.”
In addition to his FCPA-related experience, Mr. McDonald represents companies and individuals in criminal and regulatory investigations involving the US Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission and other government enforcement agencies in matters concerning securities, antitrust and export laws, and qui tam/False Claims Act cases. He also represents clients in private civil litigation, including class actions, derivative suits, and complex business disputes. Further, he advises on M&A due diligence and other aspects of cross border transactions, providing another great asset for McDermott’s corporate client base.
Mr. McDonald’s arrival comes on the heels of the announcement that McDermott hired the preeminent employment litigation team of Kerry Scanlon and Jeremy White in the firm’s Washington, DC office. Mr. McDonald’s move to McDermott’s Silicon Valley office continues the momentum behind the firm’s expansion of its Litigation Practice Group.
In June 2015, McDermott brought on Kristin E. Michaels in Chicago as the Head of Labor & Employment for Corporate, Health and Private Equity Clients. Around that same time, McDermott also added two first-chair trial lawyers, Will Stute in the Washington, DC office and Terry Dee in the Chicago office. The hiring continued with the addition of business litigator, Alexis Werl, who joined as a partner in the Paris office in early 2016. More recently, in May 2016, cybersecurity and data privacy litigator, Michael Morgan, continued the momentum when he joined in the Los Angeles office as the co-leader of the firm’s Privacy and Data Protection practice.
Mr. McDonald was named and profiled by the Silicon Valley Business Journal as one of Silicon Valley’s “40 under 40” rising stars from across industries. He received his JD from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis and his BA from Trinity College.
