CYPRUS- BULGARIA TO FURTHER ENHANCE COOPERATION

On 27 and 28 October 2017 the government delegation team of the Republic of Bulgaria, headed by the President Rumen Radev visited Cyprus. During the official visit with Cyprus’ President NicosAnastasiadesthey signed bilateral agreements between the two countries for the period 2018-2021, in the areas of merchant shipping, education, culture and science. The two countries decided to extend their official political dialogue at a bilateral level and to coordinate their actions on an international and EU level.

At the news conference that followed their meeting, Mr Anastasiades said ‘Bulgaria and Cyprus voiced their faith in a united Europe, based on the fundamental principles of democracy and cooperation. The two countries share common positions on key issues, such as energy, migration and policies to promote economic growth

From 01 January 2018 Bulgaria will hold the presidency of the EU council, with view to setting EU goals and preparing a common agenda, determining major issues and discussion topics.The two presidents exchanged their thoughts and experiences of the Cyprus’successful presidency of the council in 2012.

As a conclusion the two presidents reaffirmed that Cyprus and Bulgaria will further enhance cooperation in various fields in order to strengthen their social, economic and cultural ties.
