SIX Payment Services and the Fourth Industrial Revolution: It Takes an Ecosystem to Enable IoT Commerce

Urs Gubser

At Europe’s largest FinTech event, Money 20/20, to be held in Amsterdam on 4th – 6th June 2018, Urs Gubser, Head E-Commerce Strategy at SIX Payment Services will be addressing businesses, FinTech and financial services players on how to tackle the broader IoT commerce and ecosystem question.

Entitled The Fourth Industrial Revolution: It Takes an Ecosystem to Enable IoT Commerce, his speech will showcase how IoT OEMs will need to integrate with merchant aggregators in order to fully leverage these new digital-only channels. Industry reports predict that by 2021 there will be 28 billion connected devices worldwide, all of them potentially capable ordering goods and making and receiving payments. In many cases, the infrastructure to complete IoT payments already exists. The next stage is to link together various distinct systems into an ecosystem.

In the latest Reality Check: Internet of Payments (IoP) – Is this the future of paying, Urs highlighted that the IoT can only realise its full potential by allowing devices to transact with one another and how it is vital for payment solutions to master the entire spectrum of payments and enable secure management via an integrated platform to support the IoT commerce.

SIX Payment Services has been working, together with IoT manufacturers, FinTech companies and our own merchants, to create a commerce platform that allows the industry to foster an ecosystem that brings all actors together, while staying largely neutral. Urs will illustrate this from the point of view of a “smart home” household to show how SIX Payment Services provides the platform through which transactions can take place, facilitating orders and payments between devices and employing data analytics and machine learning that lead to a better IoT commerce experience for all ecosystem participants.

Urs will be presenting The Fourth Industrial Revolution: It Takes an Ecosystem to Enable IoT Commerce at Money 20/20 Europe, on the Lion’s Den Stage at 10:20am, 5th June 2018. For more information, please visit http://sched.co/EekJ or SIX Payment Services booth at F110.
