Qardio and Uniformed Fire Officers Association Launch Hypertension Program for the New York City Firefighters

Qardio, the leading digital health company, and the Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA) of New York City representing 2600 active members and 5000 retirees, announced today that Qardio remote monitoring solutions for hypertension will be available to additional UFOA active members who will now have an easy way to check on their blood pressure anytime, anywhere and share their vitals with their doctors automatically. This initiative is the result of a successful nine-month pilot program conducted by Mt. Sinai Health Care System’s doctors during which participating members were remotely monitored using QardioArm and QardioMD.

QardioArm is a smart blood pressure monitor that connects to the free Qardio App on the user’s smartphone so fire officers can track their measurements over time, set reminders and share their readings automatically.

Recorded data is synced to the QardioMD dashboard where members allow Mt. Sinai doctors to track their readings in a simple, efficient way. As part of the second phase roll-out of this voluntary hypertension program, QardioArm will be offered to an additional 1000 UFOA active members on a first come basis, to give them access to preventative care through remote monitoring services.

“Fire officers responded to nearly 600,000 alarms in 2017 to ensure the health and safety of 8.5 million residents, a task that is both physically and psychologically demanding,” said Martina Janeckova, VP of Business Development at Qardio. “We are proud to be able to give UFOA members a way to look after their hearts that fit the demands of their active jobs.”

Qardio is revolutionizing chronic care management through innovative technologies, exceptional user experience and smart product design. Qardio medical devices are easy to use, clinically validated and drive unprecedented patient engagement allowing healthcare providers to get better patient feedback and offer continuous care in-between visits.

“Home blood pressure monitoring using Qardio’s Bluetooth enabled blood pressure cuff has proven to be an easy yet powerful way to have our members track their own health while doctors monitor their vitals without disrupting their lives,” said George Farinacci, Vice President of UFOA. “Our pilot participants fully embraced this innovative solution and we now look forward to enrolling 1000 additional members into the Qardio remote monitoring program.”

“Wireless blood pressure cuffs are an excellent way to allow a world-class cardiology center to monitor UFOA’s member’s cardiac health in real time,” said David J. Ores MD, project director of the program and founder of Hypertension Prevention for First Responders, Inc.

This is a first of its kind partnership that brings awareness to a community with shared stressors and heart health risks and demonstrates the benefits of remote monitoring and the importance of preventative care.
