LONDON BANKING & INVESTMENT FIRMS LINE UP FOR 5KM RELAY NIGHT AT FORMER OLYMPIC STADIUM

Thousands of staff from London’s banking, investment and finance firms will don their running kit and take to the former Olympic Stadium track for the city’s biggest team challenge this summer. The first ever Great Team Relay is set to take over the world famous stadium for one night only this July.

On Thursday 14th July (from 6:30pm) the Great Team Relay will welcome teams from the city’s financial sector, including Lloyds, HSBC and Barclays, to take part in a unique evening of fitness, fundraising and fun.

Teams of four from London’s thriving finance sector will compete in a 4x5km relay with live chip timing, medals and trophies awarded to the fastest banking firm, alongside other companies from different business sectors.

So far teams from major firms including Lloyds, HSBC and Barclays have signed up for the challenge and organisers are calling for other London based banking and finance companies to take on the competition in a bid to top the leaderboard and be crowned the fastest team in the city.

With 7,000 runners expected to take part, and more than 5,000 spectators cheering them on, the capital’s finest financial firms will line up alongside other business sectors on the London 2012 athletics track inside the stadium for an unforgettable team night out – just three weeks before the Rio Games.

The Great Team Relay offers a fantastic opportunity for companies to promote fitness, celebrate teamwork and make valuable business connections in a fun and informal setting.

Enjoyment of the event is not limited to those taking part in the race, with entertainment, food and drink on offer to all spectators, and world-class hospitality available for companies looking to make the event even more memorable.

The Great Team Relay, organised by the Great Run Company, is the first of three running events to be hosted at the former Olympic Stadium this summer. Runners will be first to experience the brand new track that is currently being laid, crossing the same finish line where Mo Farah, Jess Ennis-Hill and Usain Bolt were roared to victory four years ago.

Brendan Foster, Chairman of the Great Run Company, which organises the Great Team Relay, said:

“Business and running are both booming in London, and the banking sector is the beating heart of the city. The Olympic Stadium and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Newham, East London, is thriving on the London 2012 legacy. It’s fantastic that the city’s financial sector, much of it based not far from Stratford in Canary Wharf and City of London, has the opportunity to experience its own Olympic moment just weeks from the Rio Games.

“I was in the stadium the night that Mo Farah stormed to his incredible second gold medal four years ago and am really excited that law firms across London will be able to give their staff the experience of running in the same stadium. A Thursday night in the former Olympic stadium is the perfect way to reward employees and relax together with a fun team night out for runners and non-runners alike.”

Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, said:

“The former Olympic Stadium is now one of London’s iconic venues. I am delighted that through the Great Team Relay, people working in firms across London will have the chance to feel like Olympians.

“The event promises to be a fantastic prelude to the Great Newham London Run and Family Run on Sunday 17 July. It is a chance to take part in what promises to be an unforgettable experience that should not be missed.”

Entry is just £120 (+VAT) per team of four, and includes:

  • Finishers medal for all participants
  • 4 non-running spectator tickets per team
  • Accurate chip timing and a commemorative relay baton

Live results boards will display finishing times on the night, with trophies awarded to the fastest teams from each business sector. Food, drink and entertainment will be available throughout the evening, along with world-class corporate hospitality packages for companies looking to make the event more memorable.
