DEVERE CEO NIGEL GREEN NAMED AS ‘OPS BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR’

Nigel Green, founder and chief executive of deVere Group, has been confirmed as winner of the ‘Ops Business Person of The Year’ award by an influential U.S. media group.

The FTF News Awards recognise the work and achievements accomplished by finance professionals, service providers, regulators and industry experts throughout the year.

Maureen Lowe, Founder and President of FTF, comments: “We had more than 250 nominations overall and nearly 10,000 votes, making this year’s awards season the most competitive FTF has ever seen.

“Nigel Green should be congratulated for his hard work and achievements in 2014. To be recognised as being the best by the industry itself is something to be truly proud of.”

Mr Green won in recognition for his work in campaigning against the highly controversial Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, better known as ‘FATCA’, a far-reaching U.S. tax law that came into effect last summer.

He affirms: “FATCA is a subject on which I feel compelled to speak out on.

“I am incredibly pleased to receive this award and would like to offer sincerest thanks to FTF for my inclusion and to everyone who voted for me.

“I believe that I was able to garner so many votes because FATCA has negatively impacted so many people and companies around the world, and it could seriously harm the U.S., and therefore the global, economy.   As such, people appreciate those of us who have publicly fought for this toxic piece of legislation to be resigned to the history books.

“Winning this award will provide further motivation to continue the campaign.

“In addition, it will act as a catalyst for us as an organisation to speak out more on other matters of tax and personal finance issues where we feel we can add value and be of help to our clients.

“I am not a CEO, and we are not a company, that is prepared to sit back and observe from the sidelines.  We lead from the front on the important issues that affect our clients wherever they choose to live.  Similarly, we are always at the forefront of shaping the international financial services sector and consistently pushing to drive up standards across the board.”

The lavish gala ceremony, at which Nigel Green will be presented with the award, will take place in Manhattan, New York City, at the historic Rainbow Room, which sits atop 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

  1. Congratulations to Nigel Green. He certainly deserves this award for being one of the first out of the gate to oppose FATCA. I am puzzled though as to why he would not consider helping with the funding of a Canadian lawsuit which is challenging the implementation of FATCA in Canada. His campaign and the Alliance for the Defence of Canadian Sovereignty’s campaign seem to be quite complementary. Anyway I hope that he continues to express his very valid concerns about FATCA and that he gains even more recognition for doing this.
