ANDREW J. SHERMAN JOINS SEYFARTH’S CORPORATE DEPARTMENT IN WASHINGTON D.C.Published : 9 years ago, on
Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today the arrival of partner Andrew J. Sherman to the firm’s Corporate department in Washington, D.C. Sherman joins Seyfarth from Jones Day where he was global co-chair of its franchising and distribution practice and partner in the mergers and acquisitions department in Washington, D.C.
A recognized international authority on the legal and strategic aspects of business growth, Sherman’s practice is concentrated on domestic and international franchising, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate counseling. Within those main areas, he works extensively on public and private securities offerings, finance, joint ventures, technology development, strategic alliances, capital formation, and other types of intellectual property strategies and growth areas. For over 30 years, Sherman has served as counsel to Fortune 500 companies, nationally recognized mid-sized companies, and high-profile emerging growth companies covering many industries, as well as various professional athletes, celebrities and high net-worth families and individuals. He is integrally involved in helping corporations with the strategic management of business growth, and the harvesting and monetization of intangible assets.

Sherman has served as a legal and strategic advisor in connection with a wide range of mergers, acquisitions, spin-offs, leveraged buy-outs, acquisitions of Chapter 11 companies and management buy-outs. He has negotiated on behalf of borrowers in large commercial loan transactions and assisted in the preparation and review of loan proposals. In addition, he has represented both investors and entrepreneurs in scores of venture capital and private equity transactions and has assisted companies at various stages of growth in diversified industries in the preparation of business and strategic development plans.

A prolific writer and speaker, Sherman has written nearly 30 books and published numerous articles addressing both the strategic and legal aspect of business growth, capital formation, franchising, and leveraging intellectual property. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland, MBA Program and at Georgetown University Law School. Sherman received his J.D. from the American University – Washington College of Law and his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Maryland, where he has won numerous teaching awards.
Sherman’s arrival follows the recent additions of partners Julia Jacobson and Thomas Schramkowski, who also joined the firm’s Corporate department in Boston and Atlanta respectively. Seyfarth’s Corporate department focuses on areas such as mergers and acquisitions, securities, investment management, corporate counseling, commercial transactions, financing, international business, and tax planning.
