Published : 7 years ago, on
Abertay University will host a series of top business speakers as part of Dundee Business Week.
Commercial lawyer John Walmsley, marketing expert Sandy McCurdy of Sales Coach Scot and Alan Martin, ‘Head Ninja’ at Chat Marketing, will present a trio of sessions at Abertay’s Dundee Business School.
The events are part of Dundee Business Week which features an array of talks and conferences at venues across the city from Monday February 19 to Friday February 23.
In partnership with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), on Monday February 19 at 9.45am, Mr Walmsley will present ‘Brexit Workshop: New Gold Dream?’
He will discuss the current status of Brexit with specific reference to the impact it may have for Scotland, and advise how businesses can plan now to cope with the challenges ahead.
On Tuesday February 20 at 9.30am, Mr Martin will deliver ‘Planning a Social Media Campaign’, in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
The presentation will cover social media marketing, including the true cost of success and how to avoid the numerous pitfalls.
And on Thursday February 22 at 1.30pm, in partnership with the Centre for Engineering, Education and Development (CeeD), Mr McCurdy, who has worked with leading brands such as McCain Foods, Kleenex and Johnston Press, will present ‘Emotion and Empathy in B2B Selling’.
The talk will shed light on the knowledge, skills and processes required to achieve ‘customer delight’ and cover the importance of understanding buyer emotions.
The speaker series is linked to Abertay’s Innovation for Global Growth challenge, which last year saw students pitch business solutions to companies and venues including Handelsbanken, Coca-Cola and West Ward Works.
Students will attend the sessions then put the theory learned into practice by creating marketing plans based on the knowledge gained.
Academic Curriculum Manager for Abertay’s Dundee Business School, Claire MacEachen said: “These talks cover a range of key areas for all businesses and will provide accessible advice relevant to companies of all sizes.
“I’m delighted we were able to secure speakers of such a high calibre and I know that both local business holders, and our students, will benefit hugely from their expert knowledge.”
Dundee Business Schools offers a suite of degree courses covering business management, accounting, finance, economics and law.
