Emmanuel Moulin Confirmed as New Bank of France Governor by Parliament
Parliamentary Approval and Political Context
Appointment of Emmanuel Moulin
PARIS, May 20 (Reuters) - Emmanuel Moulin, President Macron's pick to head the Bank of France, garnered enough votes in parliament on Wednesday to be approved as the incoming governor for that central bank.
Concerns Over Independence
Though Moulin has sterling credentials as an economic policymaker, he had faced questions about his independence from Emmanuel Macron due to his last job as Macron's chief of staff.
Political Criticism and Macron's Strategy
Macron's rivals had accused him of installing loyalists in a bid to ensure his legacy and hedge against a possible win by the far-right National Rally in next year's presidential vote.
