A major fire broke out on March 8, 2026 in a vape shop on Union Street, causing partial collapse of a four-storey building near Glasgow Central Station, prompting closure of the station and cancellation of dozens of train services. No casualties have been reported.
March 9 (Reuters) - A fire at a building near Britain's Glasgow Central Station has caused major disruptions to train services.
Dozens of train services have been cancelled and National Rail said the railway station will be closed until further notice.
National Rail said in a post on X that major disruptions were expected until the end of the day on Monday.
The BBC earlier reported a fire at a vape shop close to the station caused the building to partially collapse.
"We were first alerted at 3:46 p.m. (1546 GMT) on Sunday, 8 March, to reports of a fire affecting the ground floor of a four-storey commercial building," the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said.
"I am deeply concerned about the fire near Glasgow Central Station tonight and very grateful to all of the emergency services who are responding," Scotland's first minister, John Swinney said.
