Serbia Secures Additional Three-Month Gas Supply Extension from Gazprom

Serbia's Extended Gas Deal with Gazprom

Details of the Extension Agreement

ATHENS, June 5 (Reuters) - Serbia has secured an additional supply of gas from Gazprom for another three months until late September, Serbia's energy minister said late on Thursday.

An extension for another three months after June 30 has been confirmed, Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic was cited by Tanjug agency as saying, after meeting the chairman of the board of directors of Gazprom Aleksej Miller in Saint Petersburg.

Significance for Serbia

"This is important for our country, for our citizens, for our economy, because these are stable deliveries, extremely affordable, but also because of the flexibility and the quantities they carry," Handanovic was quoted as saying.

Background and Broader Context

Previous Extensions and Gas Supply Sources

Serbia had secured in March a three-month extension of its gas contract with Russia.

Diversification Efforts

Cheaper imports of Russian gas cover up to 90% of Serbia's needs, though Belgrade has sought to diversify supply with gas from Azerbaijan and liquefied natural gas from terminals in Greece.

Key Takeaways

  • The extension guarantees continued gas deliveries until late September, reinforcing energy stability and affordability through Gazprom (n1info.rs).
  • Russian gas still supplies up to 90% of Serbia’s needs, though prices remain favorable at approximately $320–330 per 1,000 m³ (serbia-energy.eu).
