Vienna-based paysafecard.com Wertkarten AG continued the success of previous years by achieving record results in 2013. This further establishes the company’s position as the European market leader for prepaid solutions for online payments, and showcases paysafecard as one of Austria’s globally successful companies.
Strong growth in all areas
Last year’s total turnover of €116.4 million is the highest in the history of paysafecard, and represents an increase of 13% on the previous year’s turnover. paysafecard products were used for 68 million payment transactions around the world in 2013 – a year on year increase of 23%.
Opening new markets
paysafecard has consistently driven its expansion forward. 2013 saw the introduction of paysafecard into yet another continent – Australia and its giant market.”Down Under” promises enormous potential for the prepaid payment method; the first few months since the launch have been particularly successful. paysafecard also launched in Bulgaria and Lithuania in 2013, and is now available at over 450,000 sales outlets in 37 countries around the world. At the end of the year, the company employed just under 200 employees.
my paysafecard launches in 22 countries
A significant step taken in 2013 was the launch of the online payment account my paysafecard in 22 countries. With my paysafecard, paysafecard allows users to manage their purchased PINs via a single account. This gives users the best possible overview of their current balance and past transactions, as well as allowing them to pay online simply and easily with only a username and password.
Udo Müller, CEO of paysafecard.com Wertkarten AG, summarises 2013: “Security and convenience are the essential features when paying online. For this reason, paysafecard continued to gain in significance last year, as the figures clearly demonstrate. This is not only true for existing markets – such as our most important market Germany – which we have been working on for years, but also for relatively new markets, such as Canada, Hungary and Turkey, in which we have been able to establish paysafecard within a short period.”
Company prepares for the future – prospects for 2014
paysafecard has implemented some significant internal structural and personnel changes in 2013. With the closing transaction, the takeover by Skrill, one of the leading digital payment providers, was completed. The synergy potential has already become clear. This will lead to advantages for the users of the products of both companies over the course of the year.
In 2014, the recent change of CEO from company co-founder Michael Müller to Udo Müller was a significant step. Udo Müller: “The strategic planning for 2014 was developed when all three long-serving board members were still onboard. I will now systematically implement the plans together with Chief Financial Director Bernd Egger. The market potential is tremendous: There are one billion potential customers worldwide who would like to pay online, but who do not have a bank account or credit card. And even if such means are available, people often do not wish to use them online for security reasons. paysafecard is the solution for all of them.“
Udo Müller expects that all of the important figures will continue to increase. The company also predicts a big boost from the re-launch of the online payment account my paysafecard in Germany, which took place at the beginning of 2014.
