BakerHostetleris proud to announce that Partner Susan N. Lubow has rejoined the firm, resident in the Columbus, Ohio, office as a member of the Tax Group. Coming to BakerHostetler from Porter Wright, she was a partner and former associate in BakerHostetler’s Columbus office from 1995 to 2006.

Lubow has more than 15 years’ experience in the design, implementation, administration, and governance of employee benefits, including retirement plans, health and welfare plans, nonqualified deferred compensation, and Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs). She collaborates with large publicly traded companies to small entrepreneurial employers on benefit compliance issues, providing them with practical advice on how to best meet their business goals while adhering to regulatory requirements. Lubow’s holistic approach to benefits management has helped clients in multiple industries, including energy, engineering, banking, retail, and healthcare.

She has experience working with executives, boards, and benefits committees to provide training on fiduciary liability issues, conduct internal plan audits, and assist with benefits claims and appeals review and corporate governance issues. Lubow also provides review and guidance of employee benefit plans during corporate acquisitions and mergers. She is highly specialized in representing, counseling, and assisting clients in employee benefits matters before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the United States Department of Labor, and other governmental agencies concerning plan qualification, adherence to fiduciary standards, and compliance with various legislation, including COBRA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and ERISA. Lubow also counsels clients in utilizing the IRS’s Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System (EPCRS).

Lubow received her J.D. in 1995 from Harvard Law School and graduated with her B.A. and B.M. from Oberlin College in 1990. She currently serves on the Alumni Leadership Council for Oberlin College and sits on the Board and Executive Committee of the Women of Temple Israel Columbus.
