Checkprint Partners With Arthur Rank Hospice

Checkprint, part of the TALL Group of Companies, the UK leader in the provision of secure paper and electronic payment solutions, has helped Arthur Rank Hospice Charity to more than halve the time it spends sorting and processing cheque donations. The Cambridge-based charity has implemented Checkprint’s Banking Assistant Professional to increase efficiency in its finance office.

Funded by the NHS and the Charity, Arthur Rank Hospice is dedicated to providing specialist palliative care and support to adult patients, their families, friends and carers. All care is provided free of charge and offered to people living throughout much of Cambridgeshire.

Cheque Donation Processing Challenges

The charity receives approximately 150 cheques per week, which can rise up to 700 in the lead-up to Christmas, made up of regular donations and contributions from fundraising events. Previously, members of staff would be responsible for manually sorting and processing the cheques before uploading the data into an internal system, which proved to be time-consuming.

Implementing the Banking Assistant Professional Solution

Checkprint was invited to demonstrate the benefits of its Banking Assistant Professional solution. This bespoke software application is a cheque and cash deposit management system that combines a desktop scanner to capture an image and details from the cheques with comprehensive software. It helps customers to comply with regulations, speeds up the banking and reconciliation process and generates a searchable archive of cheque data and images.

After being impressed by its capabilities, Arthur Rank Hospice chose to implement the solution in November 2014 and has since seen an increase in operational efficiency.

Operational Efficiency and Charity Feedback

Karen Field, Finance Director, Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, said: “Banking Assistant Professional has more than halved the time the team spends processing the large volume of cheque donations we receive. The solution has allowed us to generate information that saves us time both in the bank and in the office, uploading to our finance and fundraising databases with minimum intervention. As a result the team has been freed up to undertake additional tasks of value to the charity.”

Future Needs and Service Expansion

After spending more than 30 years providing services to the community, Arthur Rank’s current hospice building is no longer able to cope with the level of demand for its services. Therefore, the charity is currently embarking on a project to build a new, centrally located, larger hospice with modern facilities more appropriate to providing end-of-life care. The cost is anticipated to be £10.3 million, and currently £5.5 million has been raised towards the project. For more information, visit www.arhc.org.uk.
