Best Option Restoration (BOR) has been around for less than a decade, but in that short time span, it’s grown from a single Colorado disaster remediation company to a nationwide franchise. Now, founder Nick-Anthony Zamucen is ready to guide BOR into its next chapter by stepping back to focus on CEO duties — and promoting former second-in-command Kyle Chiasson to President.
Best Option Restoration has garnered attention for its rapid growth as a franchise and uniquely supportive culture. Paradoxically enough, Zamucen says that carefully selecting franchisees — and only choosing a relatively small percentage of applicants — is what’s allowed the company to expand across the country in a few short years.
“I tend to turn down a lot of franchisee candidates because they're just not culturally the right fit,” Zamucen says. “Then it gets out that I'm not just taking a heartbeat and cash, and people want it more. And so I get a lot of interest in the company, which makes it good for me. I'm cherry-picking only the best.”
By taking on fewer franchisees than most, Zamucen ensures that he’ll have time to mentor and support new BOR owners. “With a lot of other companies, if it's a heartbeat and cash, they'll take you. And if you make it, you make it. If you don't, you don't,” he says. “With me, they're not just a number. When someone writes a check for $150,000, I take it pretty seriously.”
However, he notes that it’s not only his leadership that matters. The people who are drawn to BOR are also usually motivated self-starters who are ready to build a business and stay with it for the long haul.
“I kind of leverage their backgrounds,” he explains. “Most people that come to our franchise systems are coming out of a career or a job that they had forever. Or they just decided, ‘If I'm going to work 60 hours, 70 hours a week, I'm gonna do it for myself, not for someone else.’”
Now-president Kyle Chiasson is proof that the combination of self-motivation and Zamucen’s commitment to nurturing new franchisees works. Before he started working closely with Zamucen, Chiasson met with him to discuss business strategies. Chiasson had grown tired of his corporate career, and he was determined to build something new that mattered.
Shortly thereafter, Chiasson became the owner of Best Option Restoration Highlands Ranch & Cherry Creek, a franchise in the greater Denver area. Along the way, Zamucen taught him how to grow a successful company, hire the right people, and forge lasting connections with customers.
As his franchise became more successful, Chiasson gradually took on a greater leadership role in the company. When Zamucen determined it was time to turn his full attention to his role as CEO and chair of the company’s board, Chiasson was the clear choice to take over as president.
By learning leadership on the job, Chiasson is already following in Zamucen’s footsteps. “You know, it was a lot of years of just trial and error. When you first start a company — or at least when I first started 20 years ago in franchising — the franchisor was looked at as being all-knowing,” Zamucen reflects. “As I've evolved in business, it's become more of a two-way street.”
“Now, I take the stance of helping first and making sure that I meet franchisees where they are instead of where I feel like they should be,” he continues. “Then we go from there.”
With Chiasson handling the company’s day-to-day operations, Zamucen is free to develop new growth strategies and focus on the innovation that has made Best Option Restoration a standout — both in terms of the services it offers and its remarkable growth as a franchise.
The shift in leadership isn’t the only exciting change ushering in the new year for BOR. Zamucen has also upgraded the company’s software system to a streamlined, AI-based model that automates many processes and gives employees the time to focus on delivering top-of-the-line service.
BOR has expanded its service lineup as well. From the beginning, it has focused on water damage, mold remediation, storm damage, fire damage, and contents cleaning. In 2025, Zamucen plans to add asbestos remediation services.
It’s an exciting time for Best Option Restoration and anyone who cares about the future of home restoration. The company is off to a strong start in the new year, and with Chiasson at the helm, it’s headed toward an even brighter future.
