MORRISON & FOERSTER INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY CHAIR RACHEL KREVANS INDUCTED INTO CHIPS HALL OF FAME

National organization promoting women in IP recognizes Ms. Krevans’ outstanding contributions to the field

Morrison & Foerster IP trial lawyer Rachel Krevans has been inducted into the ChIPs Hall of Fame for exceptional achievement in intellectual property law. ChIPs – founded by prominent women from Intuit, Apple, Google, eBay, Finjan Holdings, Viblio and RPX Corporation – supports, educates and promotes the advancement, development and retention of women in patent, technology, and IP related fields. Ms. Krevans is the first recipient from the private practice sector.

“Rachel has been a hall of fame IP lawyer in our eyes for many years; it’s great to see her receive recognition by ChIPs,” said Morrison & Foerster Chair Larren M. Nashelsky. “Rachel has been at the helm of some of our biggest and most important litigation wins at the firm. The ChIPs Hall of Fame award is a testament to her outstanding trial successes, her contributions to the practice, and the pivotal role she plays in firm leadership and in mentoring and developing younger lawyers.”

The ChIPs Hall of Fame award, recognizes an individual from the public, private, academic, and judiciary sectors whose work has made a unique and lasting impact to the field of intellectual property law, and who demonstrates a commitment to the advancement of women in the field. The 2013 inductees included the Hon. Pauline Newman, of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Lynn Levine, the former Director of the ITC’s Office of Unfair Import Investigations, now a senior of counsel at Morrison & Foerster.

“I am truly grateful to receive the ChIPs Hall of Fame award,” Rachel Krevans said. “ChIPs is comprised of a tremendously talented and inspiring group of women effecting change across the patent and IP field. The group’s mission is very close to my heart, and to be honored among the practice’s trailblazers is humbling.”

In 2012, Ms. Krevans was co-lead counsel in a closely-watched smartphone trial leading to a jury verdict of more than $1 billion. A few years earlier, in successfully defending EchoStar against Forgent Network’s $200 million patent claim, she was credited with breaking a six-year patent plaintiff winning streak in Texas’s notorious Eastern District. Representing Bayer in a $350 million patent case brought by Abbott Labs, she helped redefine the standards for inequitable conduct before an en banc panel of the Federal Circuit. Then, upon returning to the trial court, she won her case a second time, even after the Federal Circuit raised the requirements for the inequitable conduct defense.

Ms. Krevans is chair of MoFo’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group and co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. For more than 25 years she has tried patent disputes involving products in the electronics, materials science, biosciences, and medical device areas, and has won headline IP trials for some of the world’s best-known brands. She has represented companies in high-stakes litigation involving a wide assortment of technologies – from DVRs, cable and satellite TV, to computer-phone interfaces and smartphones, to rare earth magnets and plastics, to HIV and cancer treatments, vaccines, and blood and antibody research. In 2014, Law360 named her among the 20 Most Influential Women in IP law, and in 2013, she was named the Chambers USA Women in Law “Intellectual Property Lawyer of the Year.”
