International law firm McDermott Will & Emery announced the arrival of Robert Goldstein as partner and head of Private Equity for the firm’s New York office. Mr. Goldstein joins McDermott after leading the Private Equity group of another Am Law 100 firm, and he will be accompanied by partner Frank Steinherr.

“McDermott’s global platform and broad industry expertise will be a great advantage for Frank and me as we continue to expand and cultivate our longstanding client relationships in the private equity arena,” said Mr. Goldstein.  “I expect our years of experience in middle market private equity to provide the perfect complement to McDermott’s existing client service approach both in New York and around the world.”

Mr. Goldstein and Mr. Steinherr bring decades of experience across a wide range of corporate transactions and business sectors. As a team they have an exceptional industry reputation for representing leading private equity firms in their middle-market transactions.  Mr. Goldstein, recognized by Legal 500 as a “recommended lawyer,” focuses his practice on private equity, leveraged buyouts, mergers and acquisitions, and distressed investing.  Mr. Steinherr represents private equity firms in all aspects of their investments in portfolio companies as well as public and private mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, joint ventures, restructurings and recapitalizations.  Mr. Steinherr also has significant experience representing clients in take-private transactions and carve-out transactions.

“Rob and Frank are an exceptional addition to the firm and a great fit as we continue expanding our deal practice in the New York office,” said Ira J. Coleman, global head of McDermott’s Corporate & Transactional Practice. “Their significant experience in middle market transactions, along with their well-established client relationships across a wide range of industry segments, will help build momentum for our private equity group on a truly global scale.”

“Rob and Frank are stellar transactional lawyers with an enviably long deal list, and adding a team of their caliber to our private equity group in New York is an important piece of our strategy for growing McDermott’s Corporate & Transactional Practice,” said David Goldman, co-head of the New York office. “Our global platform will be beneficial to Rob and Frank especially since several of their private equity clients are focused on health care, which is a core practice area for McDermott.”\

The pair’s arrival is the latest of recent notable corporate partner additions to the firm, as it continues to build its private equity capabilities globally. Mr. Goldstein and Mr. Steinherr follow the arrival of private equity partner Jeremy Dickens in New York in July, and the addition in April of private equity partner Piero Carbone in McDermott’s London office.

Mr. Goldstein received his JD cum laude from Tulane University School of Law and his BA from Columbia University.

Mr. Steinherr received his law degree, a BA(Hons)/LL.B. in Jurisprudence from Oxford University (Brasenose College) and his BA from the College of William & Mary.  He also received his LL.M. in Corporations Law from New York University School of Law and his MA/LL.M. in Law & Politics of the European Union from Brunel University.

McDermott’s Corporate & Transactional Practice represents business interests around the world, from global corporations and industry-leading companies to privately funded and entrepreneurial driven enterprises, as well as the financial institutions that support them. McDermott consistently ranks in the leading league tables, including Mergermarket, Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg and PitchBook. The Corporate & Transactional Practice Group was named “Team of the Year” for Middle Market M&A/Buyouts by The Legal 500 and is highly ranked in the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom by various Chambers.
