ISACA: Trust in, and value from, information systemsPublished : 11 years ago, on
As a non-profit, global membership association for information systems professionals, ISACA is committed to providing its 110,000 global constituents with the tools they need to achieve individual and organisational success. ISACA’s constituency represents all geographies and industries, including financial services. The benefits offered through ISACA’s globally accepted research, certifications and community collaboration result in greater trust in, and value from, information and systems. Through more than 200 chapters worldwide, ISACA provides its members with education, resource sharing, advocacy, professional networking and a host of other benefits on a local level.
Members rely on ISACA for resources that enhance their skills, expand their professional knowledge and connect them with a vibrant community of peers.
ISACA developed and continually updates the internationally recognised COBIT framework, now in version 5. COBIT 5 helps enterprises govern and manage their information and technology to deliver value to the business. ISACA also offers research and publications that provide guidance on a wide range of topics, including big data, cybersecurity, privacy and audit.
ISACA established four certifications that are globally accepted and recognised:
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
- Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
- Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT)
- Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)
Independent studies continue to demonstrate that holding an ISACA designation enhances professional recognition, credibility and earning potential.
ISACA membership and certification signifies to employers and peers that an individual is:
- Dedicated to industry-accepted practices and high professional standards
- Serious about enhancing their professional knowledge and skills
- Connected with the standards, resources and a global network of colleagues that only ISACA can provide
History
ISACA got its start in 1967, when a small group of individuals with similar jobs—auditing controls in the computer systems that were becoming increasingly critical to the operations of their organisations—sat down to discuss the need for a centralised source of information and guidance in the field. In 1969, the group formalised as the EDP Auditors Association. In 1976, the association formed an education foundation to undertake large-scale research efforts to expand the knowledge and value of the IT governance and control field. Previously known as the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, ISACA now goes by its acronym only, to reflect the broad range of professionals it serves, including those who work in information security, assurance, risk management and governance.
