David Lipkin will Bolster Firm’s West Coast Corporate Capabilities

McDermott Will & Emery announced today that David Lipkin has joined as a partner in the Corporate & Transactional Practice Group in the Firm’s Silicon Valley office.

Since 1999, Mr. Lipkin has focused his Silicon Valley practice on mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and related securities law matters for companies in the technology and life sciences sectors.  He represents both public and private acquirers and target companies, as well as special committees, in large, complex and sophisticated M&A transactions, including tender offers, negotiated mergers and other acquisition structures involving both strategic investors and private equity firms.

“We look forward to integrating David’s 30-plus years of experience into McDermott’s global platform as we continue to enhance our M&A capabilities to better serve our clients around the world,” said Ira J. Coleman, chair-elect and global head of McDermott’s Corporate & Transactional Practice. “David has been involved in hundreds of M&A transactions, and his comprehensive understanding of the landscape for acquirers and sellers will be a great asset to the firm.”

“David significantly bolsters our M&A capabilities in Silicon Valley, and his arrival is an important step for us as we look to grow our transactions group in Silicon Valley and throughout California,” said Mark J. Mihanovic, head of the Firm’s California Corporate Transactions group.  “We are thrilled to welcome someone of David’s caliber to the team.”

In addition to his work as M&A counsel to a wide range of companies, Mr. Lipkin also has extensive experience in the representation of bulge bracket and middle market investment banking firms in their financial advisory and fairness opinion activities.

Mr. Lipkin arrives on the heels of white collar partner Roy McDonald, who joined the Silicon Valley office in August.  “Their arrivals mark the start of the momentum behind our effort to expand and grow the office,” said Bill Gaede, partner-in-charge in Silicon Valley.  “We are looking forward to providing these great practitioners with a supportive and collegial environment so they can thrive and grow, not only in their individual practices, but also as team players and members of the Firm’s collaborative global platform.”

Mr. Lipkin’s arrival is also the latest in a series of recent notable hires by the Corporate & Transactional Practice group as McDermott continues to grow this practice area around the globe. The Firm recently announced the hiring of corporate and transactional partners Robert Goldstein, Frank Steinherr, Daniel Martin, Gary Emmanuel and Jeremy Dickens in the New York office, and Piero Carbone and Michael Holter in the London office.

Mr. Lipkin is an active member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Committee of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section, and served for three years as co-chair of the Western M&A Forum sponsored by Thomson Reuters.  In addition to his previous M&A and corporate practice, Mr. Lipkin served for five years as corporate counsel and chief information officer for a subsidiary of Xerox Corporation.  He received his JD from the University of Michigan Law School and his BA from Cornell University.
