Eseye’s AnyNet Secure SIM with AWS Device Defender protects SolarNow customers from disruptive, malicious, and costly service interruptions for remotely deployed solar equipment

Eseye a leading global cellular internet connectivity provider for the Internet of Things (IoT) devices has been selected by Amazon Web Services (AWS) to be an AWS IoT Device Defender launch company, pairing Eseye’s AnyNet Secure SIM with AWS IoT Device Defender, to securely manage and monitor SolarNow’s fleet of remotely deployed assets.

SolarNow helps transform lives and communities in East Africa by providing high quality, affordable cellular connected solar equipment, energy and services to remote, off-grid homes, farms, schools, health centers and business locations across Uganda and western Kenya. SolarNow’s solution ensures its customer’s solar equipment is protected from disruptive, malicious, and potentially costly service interruptions, and each device and its security are monitored centrally.

Network metrics associated with SolarNow’s devices are fed to AWS via Eseye’s AnyNet Secure integration with AWS IoT Core and AWS IoT Device Defender. The “Detect” feature within AWS IoT Device Defender is used to issue notifications of any deviation from expected behaviors set by SolarNow, giving SolarNow an early warning system to know when to communicate with clients if there is an issue with their IoT device.

AWS IoT Device Defender, combined with the remote provisioning, security, and device identity features of Eseye’s AnyNet Secure SIM, provided a perfect solution by delivering affordable and scalable preventive and ongoing security management services. With the fleet of devices easily managed via AWS IoT Console, AWS IoT Device Defender is a simple way for SolarNow to achieve a high level of security and performance anomaly management, quickly and without the need for expensive bespoke software configuration.

Peter Huisman, SolarNow CTO says, “SolarNow’s high level of customer satisfaction and our business reputation is built on a zero-tolerance for any controllable service disruption. Using AWS IoT Device Defender and Eseye global AnyNet Secure connectivity is the easiest, quickest and most cost-effective way for us to achieve and scale a high level of device security and anomaly detection. This protects our customers from service interruptions and SolarNow’s reputation for excellent customer service.”

Ian Marsden, Eseye CTO and Founder added, “To make it simple for customers to use the AnyNet Secure cellular on AWS, Eseye has listed its services on AWS Marketplace. This now allows for things like lifecycle management, certificate delivery, analytics and anomaly detection at the click of a button. Device application and management data flows straight into AWS IoT Core, whilst blocking unwanted traffic potentially from misconfiguration or misuse. AWS IoT Device Defender is a great addition to the service offering.”

Eseye’s AnyNet Secure cellular combined with AWS IoT Device Defender can be deployed on all types of edge devices to monitor devices for behavior deviating from appropriate operation for each device.
