Renowned for their commitment to championing the consumer and banishing rogue traders, leading consumer resource, Checkatrade, is set to hold a ground-breaking symposium.
Aimed at directors and senior managers of regulatory services, along with senior trading standard officers, portfolio holders, councilors and other interested parties, the one-day event offers the perfect opportunity to explore new ideas, gain knowledge and network with like-minded professionals.
Checkatrade are working with the Chartered Trading Standards Institute, on the event which is to be held at The Venue in Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Wednesday 22 February and is completely free to attend.
During the one-day event delegates will be able to hear keynote talks from eight expert speakers, including Checkatrade chairman and founder, Kevin Byrne.
Speaking of Checkatrade’s decision to hold the symposium, Kevin said, “Combining the intelligence of Trading Standards and the 18 years of award winning pioneering service from Checkatrade, there is before us probably the most significant opportunity this country has seen to date to protect residents from rogue trades.”
Delegates will have the opportunity to find out more about how Checkatrade works and how the robust vetting and feedback process, as well as their specialist software platform, can help support the work of local trading standards.
With a focus on highlighting the issues impacting local authority trading standards, along with the difference working in partnership can make, delegates will have the opportunity to hear more about a wide range of issues including:
- Supporting dementia patients
- Supporting scam victims
- Providing reputable care services and specialist tradespeople for home adaptation work
- Supporting SME’s and start-ups
- Intelligence gathering – consumer complaints, business data, vulnerable residents
- Protecting the environment – traders following good environmental practices

Attendees will also have the opportunity to attend workshop sessions, ask questions and enjoy a panel discussion which will explore how, through partnership, Checkatrade can help support local authorities and help make more of a difference in key areas.
