Breakingthebias for International Women’s Day with Global Banking and Finance
Today is International Women’s Day and our editor interviewed three female marketing leaders who provided their view on what the theme #BreakTheBias means; not just to them but to the wider business industry. Here’s what they had to say:
Jane Turner, Business Director, tmwi
“We welcome the theme of International Women’s Day 2022: #BreakTheBias. Working in an industry in which consideration of the audience is absolutely key, we build content and activations, for specific audiences, with the help of creativity and technology. Choosing the right media mix is impossible without adequate consideration being given to each individual, combined with an appropriate channel, tone and format.
“As well as forming a huge part of our audience, women have always been crucial to twmi’s success. I joined almost 22 years ago – and the reason that tmwi based the office in Stratford is because I needed to be near to my daughter’s new school. I am so thankful that this business supported me in every way throughout all these years. In turn, I like to think I have been instrumental in its growth from just two people to 40 today – witnessing first-hand our transformation from a traditional, media-buying agency to a cutting-edge, data-led and digitally-focussed business.
“But I’m just one of many women that I’d like to see celebrate this International Women’s Day; women who have shown formidable strength and positivity over a long period of time. We are so grateful for their enormous contribution.
“To create a truly gender-equal world, free of bias and discrimination, and to champion true inclusivity, we must smash outdated stereotypes. The media and communications industries have always led in this regard. It’s critical to empower women and support their choices. Let’s take this opportunity to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of our colleagues – and drive even more positive impact.”
Jane Sunderland, COO, White Bullet
“International Women’s Day doesn’t belong to any one country, group or organisation and personally, I’m delighted, once again, to support this initiative and to come together in solidarity with others who share my vision of a world free of bias and stereotype.
“As a woman working in technology, I’m still outnumbered. But I’m fortunate that the organisation I work for, White Bullet, celebrates all of us as individuals, in an atmosphere of supportive collaboration.
“This collaboration is critical in the field I work in – as I join colleagues and partners, day in, day out, on our joint mission to demonetise digital piracy. Just as with discrimination, intellectual property crime knows no borders. It’s up to all of us to call out bad practice. This #IWD2022, let’s continue to #BreakTheBias. After all, this is another fight not yet won!”
Marthe Berlin, Senior Manager of Partner Development, impact.com
“Our business is all about partnership and collaboration. I see first-hand, day after day, the huge impact that working collectively for positive change can have.
So, for this reason, and many others, I welcome International Women’s Day 2022.
“This March 8, let’s gather together, if not in person, then in spirit, to celebrate the myriad achievements of women – whether social, economic, cultural or political. Showcasing success can help to rid our world of bias, sexism and discrimination, as we focus on true leadership and highlight the potential of women around the world.
“This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias and I call on others to join this collaborative effort to accelerate equality, via collective efforts and virtual celebrations of everything women have achieved – and are still to achieve. There is so much more to do and so much success still to come! Here’s to #IWD2022.”
Businesses all over the globe are taking positive steps to make a real dent in breaking the bias. More is still needed and we hope that businesses are able to put the advice of these leaders into action. Change is possible and now is the time to truly #BreakTheBias.
