Apple ‘ad guy’ and Microsoft’s chief visionary among line-up of speakers unveiled for Digital 2013 at Celtic Manor in Wales

Global Banking And Finance 1 News

Steve Jobs’s former advertising executive and Microsoft’s chief envisioning officer have been announced among the big names heading to Wales for Digital 2013 – a major event at the Celtic Manor resort in June.

Ken Segall created advertising for Steve Jobs at Apple for more than 12 years, a partnership that inspired Insanely Simple, Ken’s book, which explains the ten elements of simplicity he believes drive Apple’s success.

Segall, who started Apple’s i-frenzy by naming the iMac, will be joined by Microsoft’s Dave Coplin – an expert in cloud computing, big data, social media, open government and the consumerisation of IT.

Also announced as keynote speakers at the free Welsh Government event are, technology ‘futurologist’ Ian Pearson and Peter Ryan, senior vice president and general manager for HP.

Delegates at Digital 2013 will have the opportunity to hear from global industry leaders on topics including cloud, mobility, analytics and big data and what they could mean for businesses in Wales.

The two-day event on 3rd and 4th June will feature a ICT-related skills day – aimed at unpacking issues around the skills needs of businesses in Wales – and an industry day, at which businesses can find out how digital technology can provide opportunities to win customers and collaborate.

Ken Segall, former Apple ad agency executive and keynote speaker at Digital 2013, said: “I’m delighted to be travelling to Wales to share the insight I’ve gained through my advertising career working with technology giants including Apple, Dell and Intel.

“My message to delegates at Digital 2013 will focus on the value of simplicity, largely inspired by my work with (the late) Steve Jobs. Apple’s love of simplicity goes far deeper than its products, and I hope that a better understanding of Apple’s principles helps delegates at Digital 2013 improve their own businesses.”

Chair of the Welsh Government’s ICT sector panel, which is helping lead the event, Tom Kelly, said: “We’re delighted with the calibre of speakers we’ve secured for Digital 2013. We want the key players here in Wales, talking about where and in what they’re investing and inspiring other businesses in Wales to do the same.

“Demonstrating to Welsh businesses the enabling nature of ICT technology, and helping them to position a digital culture at the centre of their business strategies will be key to securing Wales’ economic future.

“Wales is already host to a number of major ICT players and we need to showcase these successes to let businesses all over the world know that Wales is a nation that’s truly open for business.”

Welsh Government Minister for the Economy, Edwina Hart, said: “ICT is integral to businesses in Wales – across all sizes and sectors – and effective use of digital technologies is key to enterprise, jobs and growth across the Welsh economy.

“While technology has opened up huge socio-economic opportunities, it is rapidly evolving and, more than ever, industry and consumers are requiring data and services anytime, anywhere. It is therefore crucial that Welsh businesses are equipped with the know-how to stay abreast of ICT developments to create new services and routes to market.”
