Top 20 accountancy firm, Wilkins Kennedy, has appointed Greg Mayne to head up a new VAT offering in Kent.

Greg, who joins Wilkins Kennedy after more than 20 years with two major Kent-based accountancy firms, brings with him nearly 30 years’ experience in VAT and indirect tax. He has also spent 10 years working as an officer for HMRC.

The firm’s already well-established VAT team and associated client base has grown significantly this year. Greg Mayne’s appointment follows Wilkins Kennedy’s announcement in January 2018, when Mark Doherty was appointed as new head of VAT in the firm’s Hampshire offices.

Greg’s appointment in Kent will establish the firm’s VAT services across Wilkins Kennedy’s five offices in the county, including Ashford, Canterbury, Maidstone, Orpington and Sandwich. Greg will also provide support to the strategic aspects and delivery of VAT to the firm’s client portfolio, which ranges from start-up businesses to large multi-site international corporations.

Taking up his new role on 1 June 2018, Greg said: “I am delighted to be joining the rest of the team at Wilkins Kennedy and establishing the VAT offering in Kent for the first time. VAT is a complex area of taxation and a number of current factors, such as Brexit and the increased focus on Tax Governance by both governments and the public, have forced taxation, including VAT, up the agenda for business clients and professional advisers alike.”

Andy Dawbarn, VAT Partner at Wilkins Kennedy, said: “Thanks to a growing need for VAT services at the firm, we are pleased to welcome Greg to the national team. His skills and experience will be invaluable and I look forward to working alongside him.”
