It’s never been easier for patients to contact their healthcare providers through phone calls, emails, and online messages. Despite that fact, there’s a growing disconnect eroding trust between doctors and patients. Medical consultant and entrepreneur Sam R. Patel is working to repair that relationship with a new, high-tech solution: Looped.
Looped is a healthcare-focused app that connects patients to their providers and to a wealth of engaging, expert-curated content. Instead of sifting through pamphlets or turning to online searches to find information, patients can scroll through the app’s social media-style feed to discover videos and other content tailored to their interests.
“It’s a white-labeled product that the clinic can license,” Patel explains. “We set them up, and they have the patients download the app that's branded to them. And the patient would then be able to follow their healthcare journey through engaging videos of their provider or other verified experts.”
Patel notes that many medical practices give patients printed handouts about health conditions and upcoming procedures. However, patients tend to find these materials dull, so they turn to social media for healthcare advice.
Unfortunately, that advice isn’t always correct or safe. Looped gives medical clinics the ability to engage their patients and ensure that they’re receiving reliable, up-to-date information from bona fide medical experts.
As Patel shares, “The relationship you have with your patients is not separate from the sales. They’re one and the same. And if you don’t have the relationship, you can’t have the results. You can’t have the sales because people want to feel cared for above anything else. They want to feel like treatment is customized for them. And that’s what they’re going to return for.”
When patients scroll through their personalized feeds, they begin to see their providers as trustworthy. Their doctors aren’t just offering quality information — they’re taking the time to put it into an engaging format.
“We've built this sort of ecosystem of trust with Looped, with people coming on it, learning about their procedure, what to do before coming in, what to do after coming in,” Patel says.
That sense of trust improves patients’ relationships with their providers, but it also helps them discover related procedures and technologies that may further their goals.
“They're also learning about synergistic technologies,” Patel explains. “So if they're doing medical weight loss, now they're learning, ‘Oh, hey, I can also do skin tightening.’ And they're learning that in the app.”
Because Looped is an app focused on education rather than advertising, patients are free to explore and discover these related treatments on their own time. This can increase the number of touchpoints a clinic has with its patients in a personalized manner.
“While they're sitting at home enjoying their weight loss journey, they’re watching all the videos in the app. They’re gaining quick nuggets of knowledge,” says Patel. “And maybe the app is saying, ‘Hey, are you experiencing skin laxity and sagging skin now that you've lost all this weight? Here's how to address it.’”
Patients aren’t expected to discover a new treatment on the app and instantly schedule it. Instead, they’re encouraged to learn more, get answers to questions they have, and decide whether it’s something they may want to talk to their provider about.
“And they’re getting this information on pre-care, post-care, what to do and what not to do, but they’re getting it in a social media format from a trusted source, not an influencer.”
Patel notes that while Looped is designed to empower patients through education, it also rewards patients for engagement. As they watch educational videos and other content in their feeds, patients earn reward points. They can then put those points toward future treatments.
“When patients feel connected, they feel cared for. And that’s what Looped does — it enhances the essential connection between patients and the clinics that serve them in a very natural way,” Patel explains.
Looped has only recently hit the market, but it’s already making a splash. “We launched at the beginning of April and started getting clinics set up,” Patel says. “In the first three weeks, we brought in 100 clinics. So we're quite excited about that.”
Next up is a launch in Canada, but Patel isn’t planning to stop there. His goal is to launch Looped worldwide, and medical providers in other countries are already eager to get started.
If the app’s early success is any indication, patients all over the world will soon see an improved healthcare experience. And when you can bridge the communication gap between patients and providers, everyone wins.
