OK Senate Nominee Rep. Kendra Horn
OKLAHOMA CITY – Former Oklahoma Congresswoman and U.S. Senate nominee Kendra Horn statement on today’s Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade:
“Today’s Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade is a devastating blow for the health and wellbeing of all women. It is government overreach, plain and simple, and it’s wrong. Never before has the Supreme Court overturned five decades of precedent to take away rights from more than half of all Americans. It’s especially dangerous for Oklahoma women, because a complete ban on abortion starting at fertilization is now a reality in our state.
Banning abortion without exception puts all women at risk. Women have a right to privacy. Women have a right to healthcare. Women’s rights are not something that can just be stripped away.
The decision about whether or not to have a child is one of the most intimate and personal a woman ever has to make. Preventing women from making their own health and reproductive decisions, accessing contraception, criminalizing doctors, and incentivizing neighbors to spy on each other endangers lives.
Do we want to live in a country where government minders follow us into the bedroom, into the doctor’s office, into the most intimate moments of our lives; where doctors are told they must let women die rather than save their lives because of an ectopic pregnancy; where victims of rape and incest are forced to relive that trauma day after day; where women don’t have autonomy over their own bodies?
This is a dark day for our country, we cannot afford to go backwards. This is what happens when extremists are in charge. Oklahomans cannot afford to send another extremist to the U.S. Senate. I will always stand up against extremism and government overreach.”
