Susan Gault-Brown joins Morrison & Foerster in Washington, D.C., highlighting the firm’s continued growth in the region

Morrison & Foerster, a leading global law firm, is pleased to announce that Susan Gault-Brown has joined the firm’s Financial Services Group as a partner in its Washington, D.C. office. Ms. Gault-Brown comes to Morrison & Foerster from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and was also a senior counsel in the Division of Investment Management’s Office of Chief Counsel at the SEC prior to entering private practice. Ms. Gault-Brown brings to the firm significant experience in investment management, FinTech, and financial services.

“The diverse practice that Susan brings to the firm, particularly her extensive expertise in investment management, further strengthens our talented global finance group,” said Gary Lee, co-chair of Morrison & Foerster’s Finance Department. “Susan is a terrific complement to many of our practices, and our clients will greatly benefit from her industry knowledge.”

Joseph Palmore, managing partner of Morrison & Foerster’s Washington, D.C. office and co-chair of the Appellate and Supreme Court Group, added: “Susan’s coming to Morrison & Foerster underscores our ongoing commitment to further building a strong presence in Washington, D.C. and meeting the regulatory needs of our clients.  Susan is the latest talented partner to join our growing team in D.C. and is a key addition to our office and the firm.”

Ms. Gault-Brown’s practice focuses on the participants in the investment management, FinTech, and financial services industries.  She advises investment advisers, exempt reporting advisers, broker-dealers, funding portals, private funds, commodity trading advisors, commodity pool operators, FinTech companies, and cryptocurrency and blockchain companies on regulatory, transactional, and counseling matters involving the securities and derivatives laws. She also regularly provides advice with respect to exemptions, no-action letters, and other forms of regulatory relief.

Ms. Gault-Brown received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, her M.A. from Washington University, and her B.A. from Duke University.

“It was an attractive proposition for me to join MoFo because of its reputation as the leading technology law firm, outstanding financial services and FinTech practices, and thriving D.C. office,” Ms. Gault-Brown said. “I’m looking forward to working with my new colleagues in delivering the exceptional level of client service that the firm is known for.”

Morrison & Foerster has added more than 20 new partners since the beginning of 2014 across its Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia offices, significantly building out numerous practices. Key additions in D.C. over the last year alone include John Carlin, Bob Litt, and David Newman, who joined from the government and are leading the firm’s growing Global Risk & Crisis Management and National Security Groups, and Ali Zaidi who also came to the firm from the government and has strengthened the Environment & Energy Group.

Morrison & Foerster has also been adding top talent across the firm since the start of 2018.  Other partners to join the firm this year include Palo Alto-based M&A partner Khoa Do, Tokyo-based Corporate partner Jesse Gillespie, and London-based Finance partner Caroline Jury.
