Receiving suitable financial aid is the first essential requirement for any higher study. We aim to bring a step by step guide on how to apply for Student Financial Aid.

    New Students from England

Part-time and full-time students can apply online to Student Finance England.

    1. They can begin with setting up a student finance online account.
    2. They then need to complete the online application after logging into the account.
    3. Include the household income in your calculations. The student’s partner or parent will be asked to confirm the details.
    4. Sending in identity proofs is compulsory.

Note: If a student cannot apply online, use the form finder to get the form. If students want to apply online but cannot use a computer without help they can call Student Finance England

    Continuing Students from England

If a student has received finance last year then he/she is a continuing student. The student needs to Log in to the account and apply online.

New EU students Can Follow these Steps

    1. Download an application pack.
    2. Send in identity proofs as required.
    3. The student will get a letter confirming how much he/she will get, generally within 6 weeks.

    Proof of Identity

Include valid UK passport details in the application while applying for the first time. Need not to send the passport itself.

If a student does not have a UK passport (or the passport has expired), you need to send the original adoption or birth certificate using the certificate form.

    Household income

A student must provide the household income if she/he applies for any of the following:

    • full Maintenance Loan
    • Special Support Grant
    • Maintenance Grant
    • Childcare Grant
    • Parents’ Learning Allowance
    • AdultDependants’ Grant

A student will need to provide the household income for the current taxable year, if  a student is applying for the next academic year

After the student had applied, household members will be asked to confirm their income by the Student Finance England. The family might need to provide evidence on this.

What All Counts as Household Income

Household income comprises of the student’s taxable income adding to which the income of the following clauses has to be entertained –

    • One of the parents and their partner – if the student lives with them and is under 25 or depend on them financially
    • Student’s parents – if the student is under 25 years old and is living or dependent on them financially
    • Student’s partner – if the student is over 25 and lives with them

If a student has had no contact with the parents for over a year, he/she might be able to apply as an ‘estranged student’.

    Changing an Application

    1. Students from England

Use the online account to change personal details.

The student must get in touch with  Student Finance England in the following cases:

    • change in the name
    • change in the household income
    • parents have more children
    • change in marital status
    1. Change the Course or University

Student Finance England can be intimated in the case of change of the course/subject or university with the help of the online account or portal if he/she is a full-time student

If a student is a part-time student he/she will need to contact Student Finance – England by phone. After the course starts a student can contact university or college to change the course or the Tuition Fee Loan. This is the overall procedure for applying for financial aid.
