Smith & Williamson, the accountancy, investment management and tax group is delighted to welcome David Murphy as a director in its forensic services team.

David joins the London office from BDO, where he spent 13 years advising clients on quantum and valuation issues in a number of high-profile commercial disputes and international arbitrations as well as conducting investigations.

David’s experience spans sectors, including significant matters in the oil and gas, banking, construction and media sectors.  For the last four years he was leading BDO’s forensics team in Dubai before returning to the UK and joining Smith & Williamson in June 2018.  David has acted as expert witness and provided oral evidence under cross-examination.

The team that David has joined provides the full range of forensic services across the UK and internationally, especially Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Russia and the CIS countries.  The team advises parties involved in disputes and their lawyers and acts as quantum expert before a variety of courts and tribunals where damages claims run to hundreds of millions of pounds.

Smith & Williamson also investigate instances of suspected fraud and allegations of bribery, providing expert evidence to management and their lawyers.  The forensic technology specialists assist with the recovery, retention, investigation, and presentation of electronic data.

“I am really pleased to have joined Smith & Williamson. The forensic team has an excellent reputation and I am delighted to have the opportunity to add to its expert witness and investigations capability.  There is a strong sense of co-operation within the team, and clients value the team’s experience and responsiveness.  I will work hard to develop these attributes and the team’s reputation further” said David.

Doug Hall, head of forensic services at Smith & Williamson, said: “We are delighted that David has joined – he has a wealth of experience of quantum expert witness work in high value and complex UK and international disputes. David joining our team adds to the momentum we have achieved over the past few years acting in commercial disputes with parties from across the world.  David’s experience in Dubai adds to our international credentials.”
