The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) is delighted to announce the appointment of Claire Newman, ACSI as President of the CISI’s Essex branch.

The CISI is the 45,000 strong, global professional body for those working in or looking to establish a career in the financial planning, wealth management and capital markets professions.

It has a network of 23 hard-working branch committees throughout the UK whose primary role is to support the provision of continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities, social and networking events for CISI members, helping to ensure their skills and competence are up to date.

In addition to serving on the CISI’s Essex Regional committee Claire has 23 years’ experience in the financial services profession.  She has worked in a range of roles over the course of her career from operations, through client services and account management, to her current role as Vice President, Training with BNY Mellon’s Pershing.  Based in London, Claire has worked at the company since 1997, prior to which she was with the Bank of Scotland.

Claire is the first to step up through the region’s succession planning process and follows Clive Shelton’s three-year leadership.  On her appointment, Claire said “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work with the CISI in this role and look forward to collaborating with our members so the committee can establish a more frequent CPD event programme driven by their needs.

“I’m keen to highlight the geographical flexibility which CISI offers members regarding events. For example, if you work in London and live in Essex you also have the option to attend events in Essex as well as London. This is one of the great advantages of being a member of a large, professional body.

“I would particularly like to thank Clive Shelton for his foresight to recognise the requirement of a branch in Essex, his leadership over the last few years and for his continued support.”

Kevin Moore, Chartered FCSI and CISI Global Business Development Director said: “We are delighted to welcome Claire as the new CISI Essex branch President. We would like to thank Clive Shelton for his leadership and we look forward to supporting Claire with her membership plans during her two-year term.”

The next CISI Essex branch event will be on Wednesday 21 November in Chelmsford at Hampton SSL Bank of England Update, and Integrity at Work with Alex Golledge, Bank of England Agent and Rebecca Aston, CISI Head of Professional Standards
