China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) was invited to attend the “Hong Kong 5G Industry Forum 2018” organized by Communications Association of Hong Kong (CAHK) today. The Forum addressed Hong Kong’s 5G development roadmap and the crucial role that mobile network operators play in supporting Hong Kong Government’s Smart City and 5G development, and how the mobile industry tackles the 5G technological challenges and application researches.
Mr. Alex Cheng, Principal Engineer, Network Planning & Implementation Division of CMHK, said at the Forum that CMHK supported the Government’s Hong Kong Smart City development blueprint and 5G Spectrum assignment and release schedule.
In fact, since the launch of the “China Mobile 5G Innovation Centre Hong Kong Open Lab” and CMHK’s award of the “Trial Permit of 5G Test” by the Communications Authority in March this year, the company has immediately embarked on the lab tests of 5G network commercial equipment, proactively cooperated with industry partners for 5G application research and development to advance the 5G mobile communication network development in Hong Kong. Results of the lab tests have been scheduled for release from the second half of the year.
At present, in addition to its active collaboration with business partners on constructing the 5G network environment and application testing, CMHK has also planned to cooperate with local universities to promote 5G technology applications, activities of which will include 5G technical research and IoT Application Innovations Competition, among others. CMHK has plans to continue rolling out more 5G lab tests and demonstrations in the Hong Kong Open Lab of China Mobile 5G Joint Innovation Center to acquire the 5G technology application testing experience soonest possible to better support the 5G Spectrum release plan, which would be announced as early as next year.
