Jodi B. Laurence and Melissa Goldman Join Firm’s Fort Lauderdale Office

Jodi B. Laurence and Melissa Goldman have joined Baker Donelson’s Fort Lauderdale office as members of the Baker Ober Health Law Group.

“Jodi and Melissa are respected attorneys in the state and bring a wealth of health law experience to our Florida team, strengthening our position in the region and enhancing our capabilities to offer excellent client service,” said James M. Talley, managing shareholder of Baker Donelson’s Fort Lauderdale and Orlando offices.

Ms. Laurence joins the Firm as a shareholder with a primary focus on health care regulatory issues including corporate compliance and fraud and abuse. She also has experience in the formation and structuring of health care companies and providers, mergers and acquisitions, contracting, corporate compliance and fraud and abuse issues. Prior to joining Baker Donelson, Ms. Laurence served as general counsel for several large hospitals and health systems. Ms. Laurence is a Florida Board Certified Health Law attorney, has organized and lectured at the Health Law Certification Review Course for more than 15 years, currently serves on The Florida Bar Health Law Executive Council and is an adjunct professor at the University of Miami Law School, her alma mater, where she teaches Health Law. Since 2013, Ms. Laurence has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of Health Law and was also recognized in the South Florida Business & Wealth “Leaders in Law” list in 2015 in the area of Health Care Law.

Ms. Goldman joins Baker Donelson as an associate and concentrates her practice on advising clients on health care regulatory compliance with particular attention to telehealth, digital health, and health care technology. She anticipates potential issues providing practical and strategic council to health care providers and technology companies on innovative relationships, business models, and reimbursement opportunities that address regulatory requirements while effectively and efficiently meeting clients’ business objectives. Ms. Goldman has extensive experience advising on a broad range of health care technology issues as a former associate general counsel and interim Chief Compliance Officer at one of the country’s largest telehealth companies.

Baker Ober Health Law is comprised of more than 200 attorneys across ten states and Washington, D.C. and is regarded as one of the premiere health law practices in the country, receiving national recognition by Modern Healthcare, Chambers USA and the American Health Lawyers Association. The group’s size, scale and collective experience gives clients a competitive advantage by partnering with a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team that not only has experience in and detailed knowledge of health law, but also understands the complicated ways in which the industry operates.

Recognized by FORTUNE magazine as one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For,” Baker Donelson is among the 60 largest law firms in the country, with more than 750 attorneys and public policy advisors representing more than 30 practice areas to serve a wide range of legal needs. Clients receive knowledgeable guidance from experienced, multi-disciplined industry and client service teams, all seamlessly connected across 23 offices in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
