Key Player in UK Engineering Builds on Top Credentials to Create New Path to Growth
Assystem, the international group specialised in engineering, is celebrating 50 years’ of aerospace, automotive and nuclear engineering heritage in the UK while aiming to further strengthen its presence through increased delivery of next-generation end-to-end full lifecycle solutions.
Assystem delivers major international projects in the aerospace, automotive and energy sectors and is a top five engineering supplier globally in the nuclear space. Assystem is a key partner to the world’s largest industrial groups and engineering projects – working across Airbus, BAE Systems, EDF, Renault and Rolls-Royce to name a few – and specialises in providing advanced engineering solutions.
With 1,400 employees in the UK, Assystem delivers key national capabilities in aerospace, defence and nuclear. Assystem’s two main divisions – Global Product Solutions (GPS) and Energy & Infrastructure (E&I) – are key partners in the development of end-to-end engineering solutions for technology-intensive sectors and the provision of cutting-edge substantiation techniques and solutions for global projects and initiatives respectively, with strong safety and regulatory constraints.
Notable achievements include developing Amphibian, the world’s only commercially-available amphibious “ultralight” aircraft with an international team based in Bristol and providing key 3D scanning capabilities for the engine design of the Bloodhound SSC – the supersonic British land vehicle aiming to match or exceed a speed of 1,000 miles per hour.
Continually innovating and working on ground-breaking projects, engineers within the GPS division operate across the aerospace, defence and automotive sectors to assist large original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) across their product lifecycles. This ranges from initial R&D and concept studies to the implementation of manufacturing processes and providing in-service support such as lifecycle cost optimisation.
The E&I division is focussed on supporting relevant authorities in nuclear infrastructure design, development, maintenance and dismantling projects – from the nuclear decommissioning at Sellafield to the building of two state-of-the-art EPR nuclear reactors in what will be Europe’s largest construction site at the Hinkley Point project in Somerset. Assystem’s E&I division in the UK has also played a key role in the development of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (Iter) – set to be the largest experimental fusion reactor ever built.
“The UK is a key market for Assystem and we’re looking to drive growth through innovation, conceive new technologies and ultimately reinvent the production process,” says Mike Sheehan, CEO, GPS at Assystem UK Ltd. “Engineering technology is ever-changing and with over 50 years’ experience in the UK, we’re keen to take a lead role in propelling the industry forward, pushing the boundaries of cutting-edge solutions across the UK’s industrial landscape and future energy requirements.”
