Mobile Money Wallet first of its kind in West Africa

3rd December 2015: Every year Africa receives over USD 44 billion in money transfers from the 32 million African emigrants around the world. Of this, Ghana alone receives over USD 1 billion annually. Today, Zeepay and Small World FS announce a partnership to bring remittances into mobile money wallets directly for the 6 million Ghanaians who rely on international remittances.

Mobile money in Ghana is growing rapidly with the combined networks processing over 130 million transactions Year to date. The Zeepay and Small World FS Mobile Money Wallet service will be available to customers around the world who want to send money directly to recipients’ bank accounts in Ghana.

Andrew Takyi – Appiah, co-founder of Zeepay, commented: “We delighted to be at the forefront of this financial technology innovation, and are excited to bring value added services to Mobile Money operators in Ghana. For the first time, an African emigrant can send money directly to a Mobile Money Wallet, simply by inputting the recipient’s Mobile Money number.”

“This new service gives Mobile Money customers access to cash 24/7 as remittances are sent directly to their mobile wallets. On receiving the funds, Mobile Wallet holders can decide whether to retain money on the wallet, withdraw from a Small World FS agent or ATM. Alternatively, customers can use the Zeepay Mobile Payment Ecosystem which currently supports Airtel Money Wallets, to pay for good via their mobile.”

“This successful breakthrough will increase Mobile Money adoption in Ghana and we are excited to be part of this new future”

Nick Day, CEO of Small World FS, commented: “Small World FS are excited to bring the Mobile Money Wallet to Ghana with Zeepay. Africa is leading the way globally in mobile money, and today’s announcement is another step forward in this revolution. Ghanaian emigrants rely on safe, simple and secure remittance processes to send money home, and this is why we are passionate about working with Zeepay on the Mobile Money Wallet.”
