If your annual MOT test is coming up and you are a little worried about how your vehicle will do, you can get proactive and help your vehicle out by ensuring that it will pass all the items that are within your power to fix. What do these entail? Let us take a look at some easy pre-MOT fixes that anyone can do at home.

    Clean It Up

The first thing to do is to give your car a thorough clean, inside and out. The MOT inspector has the right to refuse to MOT your car if it is excessively dirty or cluttered inside – anything that makes them feel as though it can be risky to deal with your car is grounds for this refusal. Decluttering your car will do you a favour in the long run as you will use less fuel if your car is not carrying unnecessary weight.

    Top Up Fluids

Spend a little time one weekend going over your vehicle with a host of bottles, cans and jerry cans to hand. Go over your vehicle, topping up the oil, radiator water, brake fluid, and even filling up your screen-wash reservoir with an appropriate detergent-laden fluid. The inspector will check all of these during the test, so having them all nicely topped up is a good idea.

    Firm Fixings

Mirrors should be properly positioned; they should be firmly and permanently attached to the vehicle, as should your bumpers and numberplate. The numberplate must be clean and legible, with no signs of tampering and in a font that is acceptable to the DVLA and law enforcement. Your doors should all open and close as designed with no excess stiffness or looseness that could be deemed problematic.

    Check Your Vision

When you are cleaning out your car, check your field of vision. You should be able to sit in the driving seat and have a good, clear view all around you, even if you have to turn your head and make use of your mirrors – which should be properly positioned at all times.

Once you have ticked off all these checks, we recommend you to avail the best MOT deals and book your car in today at Elite MOT London Centre.

Run through the MOT checklist – readily found online – and see how much of it you can do yourself, before you take your car for its test and bring your car back on the UK’s roads in no time!
