Eurofield and Unanime Sport fined €172,000 by EU for incomplete responses in a synthetic turf cartel investigation.
BRUSSELS (Reuters) -Synthetic turf maker Eurofield SAS and its parent Unanime Sport SAS were fined 172,000 euros ($202,065.60) by EU antitrust regulators on Monday for providing incomplete replies to requests for information related to a synthetic turf cartel investigation.
The European Commission, which raided several companies in several EU countries in June 2023 but did not identify them, said it had sent two requests for information but had indications that the response was incomplete.
The EU executive, which acts as the EU competition watchdog, subsequently opened an investigation in November last year. It said the procedural violation of EU antitrust rules was committed at least negligently.
"Today's decision marks the first time we fine a company for such a procedural breach in the context of an antitrust procedure," EU antitrust chief Teresa Ribera said in a statement.
Uniname Sport is majority-controlled by Dutch company TenCate Grass Holding BV.
