MAC Address stands for Media Access Control address. The address is a number which identifies the network adapters installed on your computer. This address is a composition of 6 number pairs separated by colons. If you’re connecting to a network through a router, sometimes you’ve to give the MAC Address to connect successfully. But do you know how to find the MAC address? Let’s find out how to do that.

    For Windows 10:

Finding the MAC Address from windows ten is only possible when you’re connected to the network. If you want to see the address for your wireless card you’ve to connect to the Wifi. In the same way, if you’re going to find the address of your wired card, you need to connect to the Ethernet.

Now that you’re connected let’s go ahead. You have to look for the network icon on the taskbar of the system. It usually exists at the bottom-right corner of the screen. Click on the network button. A pop-up will come showing the network you’re connected and other systems that are available.

On your connected network, there will be a “Properties” button. Click on the properties. By clicking on that, you will open the Network settings. On this new window, scroll down to the “Properties” Section. It’ll be the final section of the window. Under this section, you can find the MAC Address of your system.

    For Any Version of Windows:

In the above section, we got to know how to find the MAC Address from Window 10 only. If you are using any other version of Windows, then don’t worry. I’ll describe the methods to find the MAC Address for any version of Windows here.

If you’re using Windows 7, Click WIN + R to activate Run program. Now type cmd and press Enter. The command prompt window will open. You can also search for the command timely application. To do that, Press Windows Key and search for Command Prompt on the search bar. If you’re using Windows 8, then press WIN + X and from the pop-up menu select Command Prompt.

On the Command Prompt window, Run GetMAC. If you have more than one network adapter, type “getmac /v /fo list” and press Enter to start the process. The configuration details will be shown on the screen. On the list, look for the physical address.

    For Linux:

If you’re using the Linux Operating system, you can also find the MAC Address by following few steps. In your system, Open terminal. If you can’t see it, try searching for Xterm, Shell, Command Prompt, or something similar in the Accessories folder in your Applications.

On the interface system, type “ifconfig -a” and press ENTER. If your access is denied, try inputting “sudo ifconfig -a” and then Enter the Password when prompted. After the processing is done, scroll down to find your network connection. In that section, look for “HWaddr” entry. This will be your MAC Address.

In this article, we have discussed what MAC Address, How to find MAC Address for Windows 10, Windows 7, or any other version of Windows is. We also explained the process to see the MAC Address for Linux Operating System. I hope that you have a clear idea about MAC Address.
