In medical science, venipuncture is basically the procedure of receiving intravenous access to the forearm to obtain venous blood sample or venipuncture. It is done by inserting a needle into the skin of the affected part and drawing out blood through the force of a strong stream of blood. The collected blood is then placed in a disposable syringe and can be used for various tests and purposes like culture of microorganisms, examination of anatomy, blood grouping, and so on. Sometimes, too, the needle may puncture through the skin resulting in some loss of blood. In such cases, the blood is frozen at low temperature and sent for testing.

This can be done with the use of venipuncture needle and syringes and with an increased number of blood tests and blood collections. Therefore, there is a proportional increase in the venipuncture needle and syringes market. Venipuncture is the process of obtaining intravenous access for the purpose of venous blood sampling or intravenous therapy. 21-gauge needles are commonly used for venipuncture, whereas 16-gauge needles are commonly used for the blood donation. Venipuncture with a syringe requires the nurse to exert aspiration pressure against the syringe plunger. This method involves inserting a hollow-bore needle attached to a syringe into the lumen of a large vein to obtain a specimen.

Another major factor responsible for the venipuncture needle and syringes market growth is the increasing number of diagnostics and screening tests for diseases, such as leukemia and anemia, which involves the collection of blood. Thus, with the increasing prevalence of anemia and leukemia, the demand for venipuncture needle and syringes is also increasing. Leukemia is 15th most commonly diagnosed cancer and 11th leading cause of cancer death worldwide. According to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), in 2020, a total of 178,520 people in the United States were expected to be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma.

This in turn is expected to augment the growth of the venipuncture needle and syringes market in the U.S. Moreover, increasing awareness of blood donation and the growing preference for disposable products for blood drawing are a few other factors accelerating the market growth. Venipuncture is the oldest invasive procedures, carried out for five basic reasons, such as to identify the levels of blood components, to collect blood for investigative purposes, to eliminate blood due high presence of iron or erythrocyte, administer chemotherapy, nutrition, or drugs, and to collect blood which might be useful later in transfusion purpose.

Thus, there is an increasing demand for venipuncture around the world, driving the growth of the venipuncture needle and syringes market.

Top Key Players Include In Venipuncture Needle and Syringes Market: Smiths Medical, Becton, Dickinson and Company, and B. Braun Medical.
