Spin-on filters are used to protect individual pumps, valves or the entire hydraulic circuit from contamination. The aluminum head is mounted inline with or without a bypass valve and optional barometric or differential clogging indicators. The Spin-On pictured below (right) has a head that is manufactured from lightweight cast aluminum while the spin-on element is constructed of drawn steel. Spin-On Filter elements are available in multiple media types such as stainless steel wire mesh, cellulose, microglass, water absorbing elements and micron ratings from 3 – 100 µm Nominal. Spin-on filters are employed in low- to medium-pressure hydraulic systems to protect individual components (e.g., pumps or valves) or the entire circuit from damage caused by contaminants. They consist of a head that mounts in-line with the piping on the suction or return side and a cartridge that contains a filter element. The filter element captures and collects contaminants as the process fluid flows through it, preventing them from circulating through the system. This is important as inadequate filtration can result in decreased system efficiency and/or damaged system components.
