Live, Multi-City Webinar to Explore the Tokenization of the St. Regis Aspen Resort

CREST – a new initiative focused on Commercial Real Estate investing powered by Security Tokens – will host a live, multi-city webinar on January 16 2019, that will serve as a case study of the tokenization of the St. Regis Aspen Resort. CREST is supported by the Security Token Academy and will explore how commercial real estate (CRE) investing could be redefined via security tokens and security tokenization.

The real estate industry has been impacted by many significant disruptions in recent years, including co-working spaces and PropTech (property technology). Now, a new disruptive force in the area of CRE investing may be on the horizon. This new approach involves the use of security tokens to tokenize equity or debt of CRE in a way that is regulated by the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) in the United States.

In August of 2018, the St. Regis Aspen Resort — a luxury property valued at $224 million located in Aspen, Colorado — became one of the first commercial real estate assets to be tokenized. The company was able to raise $18 million through a security token offering using Rule 506(c) of Regulation D.

One of the CRE megatrends for 2019 could involve security tokenization in the commercial real estate investing area, said Aubrey Chernick, founder of the CREST initiative and the Security Token Academy.
