InfluxData, a modern Open Source Platform built specifically for metrics, events and other time series data that empowers developers to build next-generation monitoring, analytics and IoT applications, today announced that its Telegraf Agent will integrate with and help expand Microsoft Azure Monitors metrics and events collection capabilities. Now Microsoft users can benefit from a leading time series database solution and leverage the growing open source community contribution to Telegraf.
InfluxDatas Telegraf is a plugin-driven server agent for collecting and reporting metrics and data, with more than 160 integrations to source a variety of metrics, events and logs. With Telegraf plugins, Azure Monitor can now provide its users with the ability to gain visibility into the health of their systems, as well as visibility into applications or workloads they are running in Azure.
Now Azure Monitors metric store includes the ability to emit custom metrics with the use of any Telegraf plugin. The user has the option to store the data in the Azure Monitor store for three months; or in InfluxDatas InfluxCloud, a fully managed and hosted service offering, or InfluxEnterprise, software that runs on-premises or on any cloud provider, for as long as needed. For Azure customers, the inclusion of Telegraf will enable them to use InfluxData as the time series database backend, making it easy to migrate all of their metrics to a single store.
Our work with Microsoft greatly expands the reach of InfluxDatas Telegraf and its availability to developers who can benefit from continuous plugin updates from Telegrafs actively contributing community, said Brian Mullen, InfluxData VP of Partners. This is validation of our decision to base our products on open source, and this could not have been accomplished without the great community support behind Telegraf.
Scott Woodgate, senior director, Microsoft Corp., said, We have been pleased to see the commitment of Telegraf to the open source community and are pleased to be working with InfluxData to allow our users to benefit from its data collection and real-time analysis capabilities.

Since the Telegraf projects inception, only seven of the 160 plugins available today have been built by InfluxData, demonstrating the vibrant contributions from its community. Subject matter experts easily create new Telegraf plugins helping the community quickly collect a wider range of metrics. As a result, any updates to existing plugins or the introduction of new plugins are available to customers, including Azure Monitor customers, in real time to quickly gather custom metrics about their workloads.
Metrics, events, and other time-based data are being generated at an exponential rate, as there is a growing requirement for analyzing todays complex environments. The InfluxData Platform provides a comprehensive set of tools and services to accumulate metrics and events data, analyze the data, and act on the data via powerful visualizations and notifications. Its InfluxDB database is the overwhelming leader among Time Series Database management systems, according to DB-Engines latest results published earlier this quarter. InfluxDatas unique features enable customers to quickly build:
- Monitoring, alerting and notification applications supporting their DevOps initiatives
- IoT applications supporting millions of events per second, providing new business value around predictive maintenance and real-time alerting and control
- Real-time analytics applications that are focused on streaming data and anomaly detection
