Global law firm Goodwin announced today that Douglas Flaum has joined the firm as a partner in the Financial Institutions Industry practice in New York. A nationally recognized securities litigation and trial lawyer, Flaum has more than 30 years of experience litigating cases on behalf of domestic and foreign corporations, directors, and special board committees in a diverse range of commercial, securities, and real estate matters.
Doug is a seasoned first-chair litigator who has built an incredible practice and achieved significant results on behalf of global corporations and financial institutions, said Jim McGarry, co-chair of Goodwins Financial Industry practice. His sophisticated yet practical understanding of the needs and considerations facing all sides when it comes to litigation will be a great complement to our deep bench of business and financial industry litigators, especially in New York. We are thrilled to welcome Doug to Goodwin.
Marshall Fishman, head of Goodwin’s New York Commercial and Financial Litigation group, said, Doug has a strong reputation and robust track record in the New York legal market. Adding his practice, which sits at the intersection of financial, securities and business litigation, aligns with our ongoing efforts to expand our capabilities and relationships with financial institutions in this region. We are delighted he is joining the firm.
Flaum has extensive experience advising on complex financial and business arrangement matters, including cases under the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, joint venture and partnership disputes, long-term supply arrangements, business tort and contract matters, issues of corporate governance, alleged breaches of fiduciary duties, contests for corporate control, and a variety of enforcement proceedings. He also regularly conducts internal investigations of whistleblower complaints and advises corporations and their officers and directors in nonlitigation context.
He has garnered significant praise over the course of his legal career including being consistently recognized as a leading lawyer for securities and commercial litigation by both Chambers and USA Legal 500. Additionally, he is ranked as a National Star and a New York Litigation Star by Benchmark: Litigation. Flaum is a prolific author having contributed to leading treatises on takeover defense and published articles on directors’ and officers’ fiduciary duties, attorney-client privilege, alternative dispute resolution, and international discovery.
