After graduating from York University (BA Pol. Sci.), Ann received her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from the University of Windsor. Ann pursued her passion for business and began her career as legal counsel for numerous private and publicly held companies. Ann specialized in corporate, commercial and intellectual property law and acted as In-House and General Counsel for industry leading companies including: Manulife Financial, Cott Corporation, Alliance Atlantis, TSN and Insight Sports Media.
Her love of business combined with health led to an entrepreneurial path culminating in the launch of a number of Canadian based superfood companies. Ann introduced Chia to Canada and was an early hemp food pioneer as the CEO and spokesperson for her hemp food based superfood company: Mum’s Original Inc.

Ann followed her interest in food grade hemp and hemp farming and saw the potential benefits of cannabis as a crop. Acting as a cannabis pioneer and an industry leader, Ann co-founded and owned the first Health Canada licensed and operational medical cannabis company: Peace Naturals Project Inc. Ann held the position of Chairman of the Board from its inception to 5 years later when she sold her majority interest of Peace to Cronos Group Inc.
Ann continues her campaign for health and wellness and environmental responsibility. She is the founder and CEO of Edica Naturals: a happy and healthy plant-based supplement company that cares.
For her role as director, Ms. Barnes has been awarded 300,000 share purchase options of Earth alive. Each share purchase option allows the holder to purchase one common share at the exercise price of $0.35, for a period of five years. A third of the options are immediately vested, another third will vest in 12 months and the balance in 24 months, the whole subject to the terms and conditions of Earth Alive’s option plan.
