Based on 30 years of experience redefining what it means for the military community to be connected, West Coast Publishing founder Ken Marsh joins digital media pioneer Jeff Lanctot to introduce data and media company Valor Worldwide and launch its new Internet specialty property OurMilitary.com.
Lanctots 20+ year career in digital media coupled with Marshs 30+ year career servicing the military, veterans and their families through his print directory business West Coast Publishing, has culminated into the introduction of Valor Worldwide, a data and media company focused on providing information and services for the underserved military community. Lanctot will serve as chief executive officer, and oversee the day-to day operations, while Marsh will serve as the companys president.
A historically overlooked, but sizeable demographic, veterans and the military community have a sensational need for information and resources exclusively for them. With the introduction of Valor Worldwides first online property, OurMilitary.com, they now will have direct access to significant information procured with them in mind. The site includes thorough data for the top installations and bases around the world, directory listings for military-friendly businesses, services and aid, as well as original and syndicated news content.
We realized quickly that by combining Jeffs expertise in digital media with the intellectual property and relationships that have come from my years servicing military bases across the Country, that we had a unique opportunity to create a company and Internet property that will prove to have great value, reach and impact on our military families and business partners, said Marsh.
The son of a newspaper publisher, Lanctot has always had a deep-rooted appreciation for accurate and timely information. He spent most of his 20+ year career in digital media, making a name for himself during his time as General Manager, Chief Media Officer and Strategy lead for digital advertising company aQuantive before its 2007 acquisition by Microsoft. At Microsoft, he continued as Managing Director of its Advertising and Publisher Solutions and was part of the leadership team that focused on product strategy and business development with Microsofts advertising partners.
Lanctot is the recipient of numerous industry awards including a 2013 ad:tech Industry achievement award, as well as Ad Ages Media Maven, Ad Weeks Media All-Star and B2B Magazines Brightest Media Strategist awards. He was also named one of Media Magazines 50 Most Influential People and AdWeeks Top 50 Executives. He has also been a contributing columnist to such publications as The Wall St. Journal and Advertising Age.
Having served on several advisory boards and board of directors including Placed (2012-2017), Marchex (2013-2017), and Mixpo (2008-2015), where he also served as president and CEO during his tenure, Lanctot has more recently shifted his focus to organizations with social good causes. He currently serves on the Board of The MORELove Project, a non-profit dedicated to providing transitional services to Seattle area homeless.
What attracted me most to partnering with Ken is his deep passion and commitment to continuously giving back to military and veteran-related non-profits, said Lanctot. Marsh has spent more than 30 years working with the military community, both in his role as founder of West Coast Publishing and as an advocate and prominent supporter of veteran causes.
Marsh began his career in 1980 when he launched his first military print directory in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He quickly expanded his business, known then as U.S. Publishing, throughout the East Coast and over the next 15 years served the top military installations in 25 states. In 1995, he sold off most of his company and rebranded as West Coast Publishing, serving Alaska, Washington, Colorado and Arizona. In 2001, he sold the company in its entirety, but then ended up buying it back in 2011. He ran West Coast Publishing for the next 6 years, until it printed its last military directory in 2017.
An avid supporter of military and veteran-related causes, Marsh has been involved with more than 40 military affiliated organizations, including The American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Operation Homefront, The Fisher House, Gold Star Wives of America, Heroes on the Water, and the National Alliance to End Veteran Suicide. His dedication and inspiration come from his son Kenneth, who served for more than seven years as an Army Ranger.
