    Quick Summary

5G connectivity remains limited despite compatible devices. Check your area's coverage and ensure your device supports 5G to avoid issues.

Why 5G Connectivity Might Be Limited for Some Users

Mobile users across the country are being left confused because despite new developments  5G connectivity appears to be scarce.

The experts at Telephone Systems.Cloud has revealed why many people aren’t getting 5G service even though their device is compatible.

With the closure of the 3G network last year, the rollout of the new 5G network is expected to be in full flow in 2022.

This new generation of networks was created to cope with the increasing demand in data sharing, connectivity and boasts an astounding device response time of around one millisecond – meaning surfing the internet has become an effortless task and VOIP phones can run seamlessly, allowing customers to answer both landline and mobile calls wherever they are.

Some Brits who have purchased a new 5G compatible device have been left muddled after not being able to get 5G service.

Despite the installation of 5G poles up and down the country, there are still some areas that are without connectivity – not only this but mobile service providers must also offer 5G as part of their plans.

Experts are advising users to check their area for 5G connectivity before they purchase a new device to avoid disappointment.

Alastair Bates, Managing Director of Telephone Systems.Cloud said: “Trying to understand new developments in the technology industry can be difficult especially with varying information sources.

“We recommend users firstly check their area supports 5G and then secondly check that their device supports the service rather than the other way round.

“There are of course other possibilities for not being able to get 5G for example, if you’re uploading something, 5G only currently supports downloads.

“Also, it could be that the device is too hot or there could be a software bug that inhibits

users ability to get 5G signal.”

Telephone Systems.Cloud offer the following tips:

    Check the area

There are currently 303 towns and cities in the UK that have 5G coverage, so it is best to check where you live is covered.

    Check the plan

Each service provider that supports 5G will have a coverage map that displays which areas of the country are covered by that provider.

    Check the device

Not all mobile devices will automatically work with 5G networks so check on the manufacturer’s website to see if the device is compatible.

    Upload or download?

As of right now the 5G network only supports downloading data, so if you’re trying to upload something 5G that may be why it’s not working.

    Software bug

In some instances, it is possible that a software update or bug can prevent users from accessing 5G. This is rare but it is always worth checking news forums for any updates.

    Settings

If you have everything in place to facilitate 5G and it is still not working then check your device settings. Some phones will need to have ‘5G enabled’ before it is ready for use.
