When Did the Internet Start?

When Did the Internet Start?

If you are a web site owner, you would have realized that the question of when did the internet start to exist? The answer is never. This statement has many reasons behind it and they are all important. The question is, what really happened when the internet started?

To understand this concept, let us try to dig deep into the history of the internet. When the computers came in use, it changed the entire system of information exchange. Before this time, people used to communicate through telegrams and letters. As time moved ahead, it became a necessity for any business to promote its products and services worldwide.

With the passage of time, more people turned to the internet for help. It gave them the opportunity to meet others around the world and share their thoughts and ideas. Thus, the popularity of the internet was built on the popularity of communication. The internet made it possible to share and organize information. It even gave birth to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter which changed the way we communicate with each other forever.

Today, we cannot imagine a world without computers. We rely heavily on the internet for everything from receiving and sending information, to reserving rooms at a hotel and booking tickets for international flights. We rely on the internet for booking tickets for our vacations and travelling to distant countries. We even conduct our bank transactions and check out bills online. The internet has changed our lives! However, the popularity of the internet cannot be explained without taking into account some vital factors.

The first moment when the internet boom began is related to the invention of the computer. In the mid-eighties, the first commercially available computer – the Tandy machine – was sold by a company called Compaq. People were amazed by the machine and went to the extent of buying one for their homes. The popularity of the computer phenomenon spread across America and Canada and from there it spread all over the world.

When did the internet start to get popular? Well, there can be no single date for the beginning of the internet, but it is probably safe to say that in the late eighties it got popular all over the world. The popularity of the internet is related to the development of the internet as a commercial service. As more people got access to a personal computer with internet access, the internet became more popular. People spent more time on the internet and it became necessary to have a central computer to store all the data.

Before the internet became popular, telephones were the only way to communicate within a country or even across the globe. Email and faxes were used for personal communication and business communication. Internet communication became essential when cell phones became available. Cell phones paved the way for the email, which was then replaced by the World Wide Web (known as the internet). Nowadays, when people log on to the internet, they use their computers (PC’s) and their browsers (online browser). The use of the internet has enabled people all over the world to share information and develop international business.

The invention of the internet could be traced back to either someone’s curiosity necessity or perhaps, luck. When did the internet become so popular? When did people start taking it seriously as a commercial activity? Some believe that it was around the time when email became widely available. Others believe it was when the first commercially available web browser (known as Netscape) was released.

The internet didn’t stop at the time when email and browsers hit the market. It didn’t take long before other types of technology like mobile phones and handheld computers were introduced. Then things got more crowded as wireless internet became available. Today, the world literally spans under one big internet that is accessible to almost everyone who has access to computers.

So how accurate is this prediction that the internet will one day replace all the conventional computers? Well, if you think about the incredible number of websites that are available and all the various software and programs that make up the internet, then you can definitely say that it is possible that the web will have completely displaced all the computers in the entire world. One day, the prediction might actually come true. The popularity of the internet is growing continuously. It has already reached a staggering 5th of the whole world’s population.

So can we expect the same thing with the internet in the future? Well, there are several theories about this matter. Some believe that the popularity of the internet will only increase in the future and it will overtake the actual computer. Others believe that the popularity of the internet will remain the same in the future. Still others believe that the prediction when did the internet start is already coming true.
