Belarus plans to deploy Russia's Oreshnik missile system in December, responding to Western escalation. Preparations are nearly complete, as reported by TASS.
MOSCOW (Reuters) -Belarus will deploy Russia's Oreshnik missile system in December, Russian state-run TASS news agency reported on Tuesday, citing Natalya Eismont, a spokesperson for Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
Eismont said that preparations for the deployment were nearing completion.
Earlier, Lukashenko said that Russia's deployment of Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missiles in Belarus was in response to an escalation from the West. The missiles featured in joint Russian-Belarusian military exercises last month.

A missile system is a combination of weapons, launch platforms, and support systems designed to deliver and operate missiles for military purposes.
Hypersonic missiles are advanced weapons that can travel at speeds greater than Mach 5, making them difficult to detect and intercept.
